The Usual Summer Chaos

The usual summer chaos has set in, thus no post in a month.
First we went to the North Coast house sitting for our friends as always and -as always- I didn’t get done half of what I had planned to do. It started with the fact that I really can’t sit for hours on the dining table chairs to work. Then there are countless distractions, from four dogs this year to a swimming-pool. And last but not least, there were two trips back to home, the first to have our car fixed and bring it up and the second one to accompany Albert and pick up something I had forgotten. After that I spent 3 days volunteering at a spay and neuter clinic that the AAAS had organized and the rest of the last week I was recovering from general soreness and some asthma attack.
Anyway, we came back on 27 July and found our apartment half flooded. It turned out that apparently the drain on the balcony got clogged and somehow we have a lot of water that is pouring down from the awnings on the 7th floor suddenly coming into our balcony if it rains really hard. Now, it always tends to rain hard during this time of the year but we never had this problem before. My two lines of thought on this matter: first, when the renovation work on the roof was done last winter some concrete and rubble ended up in our drain pipe and now we have a problem. Second, some work also must have changed the flow of water from the roofs as we never before had such incredible amounts of water pouring down in front of our balcony. For now I got the drain partially working and yesterdays half-flooding of the the balcony solved itself in 2-3 hours.
On the 28 Stéphan left for Europe and I plunged into housecleaning and making up for the work I hadn’t done in July. Today, two weeks later things seem to have gotten back to a normal rhythm.
